Duane and Jackie Fulps lived in The Dalles and later in Mosier where they continued their involvement with young people and their horses. In addition, Duane and Jackie were both accredited Oregon Horsemen Association judges with Duane acting as an accredited judge for the American paint Horse Association. Both were strong supporters of the Fort Dalles Riders and its Rodeo. Jackie was honored in 1977 by being the Grand Marshall of the Fort Dalles Days Parade. After Duane’s passing in 1992, Jackie moved to the Oregon Coast in 1999 to be closer to her son Lynn and Family.
It was Jackie’s wish to have a horse shoe in Duane’s Honor to raise money to give back to the youth of our area with a scholarship fund. This is done by raising money during our annual Horse Show. The Horse Show is in its 30th year and is scheduled in early Fall. The entry fees and sponsorships go toward the college scholarship fund that is awarded to graduating high schoolseniors who are also members of the Fort Dalles Riders.
Competitors throughout the Northwest of all ages are welcome to compete in the Horse Show. There are class awards, an Over-All High Point, a Sportsmanship Award in Honor of Jackie Fulps. Sponsors at a suggested level will also receive a commemorative banner.
