Queen's Cup Fundraiser-

The Wasco County Fair and Rodeo Queen Hailee Olheiser and I held the annual Queen's Cup Fundraiser this year at the Double H arena. This was a chance for everyone to get their horses out of the pasture and run them for the first time since last year. we had a couple of riders hit the dirt but all together everyone had a great time.

First Round-up Playday-

This was my first playday as the queen, I had alot of fun and really enjoyed it. We had a good turn out of participates and great food. I was the official prize-passer-outer and I got mingle with everyone.

Cherry Parade/My Luncheon-

We really got lucky this year with the weather during that parade being perfect for spectators and participants.  As the first parade of the year my horse was excited to get to the parade and excited for it to be over. It was great to see all the support from the club that showed up to ride and watch the parade. As soon as the parade was over I went to my luncheon. We had a good turn out of rodeo queens and once again we had wonderful food.

Arlington Parade-

Everyone warned me about how short The Arlington Parade was but I didn't believe them until I got there. This parade consists of people on one city block and an announcer with a microphone and a speaker.  Even though it was short I had fun waving and talking to the "crowd". After the parade I went to the queens luncheon. It was decorated to pretty, the curtains even matched the table clothes!

4-D Barrel Race-

This was the first Riders Club event I have rode in as The Queen. I had a blast announcing, helping set up knocked barrels with other Junior Riders Members and riding my extremely overweight horse. He did really good for only being rode two weeks since last summer. To top it all off I won 3rd place in my class!

Wasco County Fair & Rodeo Queen’s Coronation

My first event as the Fort Dalles Riders Association Queen was the Wasco County Fair & Rodeo Queen's coronation.  I got to meet all the new 2008 Royalty and wear my new Silverbelly hat.

 Fort Dalles Riders Queen Coronation

My coronation began with a rocky start.  We left the chocolate to stay hot in the crock pot and it burned, with the  help of the Covert’s, new chocolate appeared, the fountain was perfect and no one knew the difference.  Everyone arrived, we had desserts, I was crowned and the silent auction was busy, busy, busy.  We got so wrapped up in all the festivities that we just plain forgot to cut the cake.  I don’t think anyone noticed as the sweets were abound.

I was overwhelmed by all the support of my Family, Friends, and fellow Club Members.  The Silent Auction was a success and I am thankful to everyone that attended.

Fort Dalles Days  Pro Rodeo Queen Coronation

The Fort Dalles Days Pro Rodeo Queen was my latest event.   It was the first time I got to introduce my self as the FDRA Queen in front of a group that large.

Read Across America (Dr. Seuss Birthday)

This is a day when people go to schools and read to kids to increase the children's likeness of reading.  I went with Hailee Olheiser, the Wasco Co. Fair & Rodeo Queen, to Dry Hollow Elementary school and read to Mrs. Shepherd's 4th-5th grade class.  Mrs. shepherd was my 2nd and 4th grade teacher.  It was really fun seeing her again and answering all the kids questions about what I do.  After we read, each kid made a "Cat in the Hat" treat.

  H.U.G.S. Fair

The HUGS fair is a children's safety fair in at Henkle School in White Salmon, WA.  Hailee Olheiser and I made brown paper vest and paper crowns with the kids.  Each kid made a vest or crown and we stamped their passport.  I made a vest for myself that I must say is amazing with lots of safely stickers on it.

2008 Queen

Laura Lowe

What comes to mind when you hear "Never In My Wildest Dreams". Never in my wildest dreams is a girl that three years ago had never been on a horse, to today having the awesome honor and privilege to represent one of the oldest riding clubs in Oregon.

Hello, my name is Laura Lowe and I am the 2008 Fort Dalles Rider's Association Queen.  I am the 16 years old daughter of Cary & MaryEllen Lowe of The Dalles and the proud older sister of Carly. I attend The Dalles/Wahtonka High School as a Sophomore.

My first taste of horse back riding came when my friend invited me to ride with her.  What can I say; I've been hooked ever since.  I started out a little shaky, being ponied around, but now I am comfortable and confident in my saddle. The last three years have been filled to the brim with horse activities, from showing and gaming in 4-H, to goat tying and run-outs at rodeos, I love it all.

When I am not riding horses or promoting The Fort Dalles Riders Association, I keep busy with 4-H.  I participate is horse, sheep, dog, cooking, modeling and sewing 4-H at the Wasco County Fair. Last year I went to State Fair and modeled the polka dot pajama bottoms I sewed.  I am also on the Wasco County 4-H Teen Council and the Dallesport Teen Council.  My favorite things to do are ride horses, scrapbooking and visiting with friends.

Thank You!!

Queen Laura Lowe
